Meet the full-time vloggers who sold everything to travel the world

We make more money than ever after quitting our jobs and becoming travel bloggers: Couple who were fed up with British weather and the 9-5 grind are loving their new lives but say they ‘work harder than ever’

  • Couple taught themselves video skills to travel world and share adventures
  • They now have a following of more than 300,000 people across social media

A globetrotting couple sold all their belongings and quit their nine to five jobs to travel the world and share their adventures.

Dylan Evans, 30, and Adriana de Pertis, 33, met in 2018 and bonded over their love of travel and desire to escape the British weather.

It took two years of saving for the couple to be able to follow their dreams, which earned them about £1 a day when they finally started travel vlogging in 2020.

Now, they say, they are working harder than ever to maintain their channel, having built a following of hundreds of thousands of subscribers.

They are earning more than they ever did – and they wouldn’t have it any other way.

The couple had to teach themselves all the skills needed to make it in the competitive space

Swedish-born Adriana de Pertis, 33, quit her job as a dental therapist to travel the world

After they met, the couple soon started planning great adventures together while Dylan worked in data warehousing and Swedish-born Adriana worked as a dental therapist.

After saving up £32,000 over two years, the couple quit their jobs in 2020 to launch their own YouTube channel, 2Passports1Dream.

The first blog was posted in late 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The couple were able to share their experience in Asia under quite unique conditions as borders reopened.

Steadily they taught themselves the video skills needed to thrive in a competitive vlogging space.

And it worked. The couple soon racked up more than 120,000 subscribers after sharing their adventures in Singapore, the Philippines, Cambodia, and Thailand.

Dylan, from Cardiff, Wales, said he always knew that the 9-5 grind wasn’t for him.

But he said the travel isn’t all glamour as the pair often work more than 10 hours a day to keep up with the constant process of filming, editing, and posting.

Dylan said: ‘To begin with, our social media accounts were making no money at all.

‘The first day we got monetised on YouTube, we were cheering to making around £1 in one day.

‘It felt like much more than that, though.

‘It was £1 that we made for ourselves from something that we love.

‘Since then, we have grown our monthly income, although it can vary greatly depending on our location and how often we post.

‘We are fortunate to be making more now than we were from our 9-5 jobs.

‘But, with this travelling content creation lifestyle comes a lot more expenditures, such as camera gear, travel, insurance, and hotels with good WiFi.

‘There’s a common misconception that travel YouTubers are just sipping cocktails on the beach and the videos upload themselves.

‘But we have never worked this hard in our lives, and we wouldn’t change this for the world.

Adriana, now 33, met Dylan in 2018 and started planning trips after a first date at Thorpe Park

Dylan said despite all the time and effort that goes into making vlogs, he would never change it

Most recently, the couple published a blog on what to do in Singapore in 2023 for tourists

‘During the saving period,’ Dylan continued, ‘we had a very strict budget and too many excel sheets to count but managed to save up £32,000 in the two years leading up to travel.

‘We can both remember our last day of work like it was yesterday, such a massive load off our shoulders knowing that we can be our own bosses from now on.’

Dylan said at the start friends and family didn’t understand their vision but now loved ones use their channels to stay up to date with their travels.

The first vlog in December 2020 documented their flight to Thailand during the pandemic.

Some of their most popular videos include trying the spiciest dish in Bangkok and buying the world’s cheapest suit in Vietnam.

They share tips and tricks with followers and recently managed to fly business class with Singapore Airlines for only $10.

As well as vlogging, the couple maintain a blog on their website with tips for travellers ranging from insurance to travel card options and VPN options.

Dylan, who also owns a digital marking agency, said: ‘As nomads, we travel light with everything on our backs, constantly changing countries and hotels.

‘It’s not easy for us to make friends on the road because we’re always on the move, but we try to stay connected through social media.

‘Being away from family and friends for long periods is challenging, and we often go over a year without seeing them.

‘During the pandemic, we were away for almost two years before we finally returned to the UK and Sweden for a month.

‘It’s tough, but we’re working hard now so that we can afford to make more regular trips home in the future.

‘I have type 1 diabetes, which is a constant struggle even in normal life.

‘While travelling in hot climates, I have to worry about keeping my insulin from getting ruined by the weather and being away from home for so long, I have to keep a close eye on my medical supplies.

‘Thankfully, my supportive family is always there to help.

‘My brother sends me more insulin in the post when I’m running low, which is a lifesaver.

‘If it weren’t for him, we’d have to fly home way more often.

‘Anyone can make a living out of YouTube.

‘Whether you want to travel like us or explore a different industry, with hard work and dedication, you, too, can build an epic follower base.

‘Who wouldn’t want more than 100k friends travelling the world with them’.
