The niece of Princess Diana married Michael Lewis, 60, in Italy a few days ago. They had a magnificent wedding in the idyllic town of Frascati.

Located only 12 miles south of Rome, the hilltown of Frascati is where wealthy Roman families go to spend their weekends and summer holidays.

But why did Lady Kitty Spencer and her husband Michael Lewis chose this location for their fairy tale wedding?

Frascati is a very small but beautiful town located in the Lazio region, in Italy.

The medieval town has many monumental residences that were built in the 15th and 16th centuries by rich Roman families, which are the main tourist attractions.

The most spectacular one is Villa Aldobrandini, which Kitty Spencer chose as her wedding venue.

Villa Aldobrandini can actually be visited by tourists.

In monumental Frascati, visitors will find impressive vineyards, flower gardens, and ancient stone fountains and statues.

Well known for its delicious wines, the town has the most idyllic restaurants for an authentic al fresco Italian dinner.

For its beauty and peace, the little town was, and still is, the location chosen by wealthy Romans as a holiday retreat.

Britons who wish to visit the pretty town can fly from London to Rome Ciampino Giovan Battista Pastine Airport, which is the closest airport to Frascati.

Return tickets are available from Stansted Airport flying with Ryanair for only £16.

From there, travellers can get to Frascati by train in under one hour.

The town is only 20 minutes away by car.

Travellers can also get to Frascati from the city of Rome in only 30 minutes by train.

Hotels in the historic town are also very affordable with stunning four star hotels for £60 per night. Visitors can also find charming three star hotels for as little as £40 per night.

However, travellers should note that this week all the accommodation is fully booked in Frascati.

Not far from the Lazio Region is the Amalfi Coast, where Kitty Spencer is currently spending her honeymoon.

The Amalfi coast is a very popular destination in the Campania region.

Some of the most beautiful towns are Amalfi, Sorrento or Positano, which has the most iconic views.

Italy is currently on the amber list, meaning Britons who haven’t been fully-vaccinated must quarantine for 10 days on their return to the UK.
