There are plenty of quirky McDonald’s locations around the world.

In America, you can enjoy a Big Mac at a UFO in Roswell or dine at the poshest outlet in Maine – and it even serves lobster.

But a Maccies restaurant in New Zealand has raised the stakes even further.

Taupo tourists can stop off at a decommissioned Douglas DC-3 plane for a Happy Meal.

The old aircraft, which still features its original cockpit, has the McDonald’s logo on its exterior.

30 years ago, it was transformed into a dining room with 10 tables.

Pictures of the quirky McDonald’s outlet have gone viral on Reddit – and people are desperate to visit.

One responder joked: “Great now I have to go to New Zealand just to eat at McDonald’s.”

Another said: “That’s pretty damn cool.”

And a third laughed: “Finally I can afford first class.”

Those who have had a chance to visit the old plane are chuffed with the experience.

On TripAdvisor, one tourist wrote: “While driving through central Taupo, I spotted a DC3 airplane sitting in front of a McDonalds, I had to stop for a look see.

“Chicken sandwich and chocolate shake was as good as any other McDonalds, but the airplane experience was great!

“Truly a must see, and I went there twice!

“This place can be very busy at lunchtime and parking is difficult, but I'll definitely go back for another look at the airplane.”

Another said: “Eat your burger in a plane! Taupo McDs has refurbished an old plane with seating inside, so you can eat your meal there.

“Quirky and fun, it’s right by the waterfront. Try it for something a bit different.

“McDonald’s food and service is pretty standard.”

And a third added: “DC3 plane converted to a McDonald's restaurant. Kids loved it.”
