A lie-flat business-class seat on a long-haul plane is too much of a stretch financially for most people.

But there is a way of experiencing a fancy suite on the cheap – for as little 50p (plus Avios points).

Travel site Simple Flying revealed that in February and March British Airways will be flying wide-bodied Boeing 777 and 787 Dreamliner aircraft from London Heathrow to Frankfurt, Berlin and Dublin – and these all feature ‘Club World’ business-class cabins with fully lie-flat seats.

By comparison, the business-class cabin on a short-haul BA flight is usually on a single-aisle plane, featuring rows of economy-style seats with the middle seat blocked.

Another travel site, The Points Guy UK, further revealed that it’s possible to book business class on the wide-bodied flights for 50p plus 15,000 Avios on off-peak dates and 50p plus 16,250 Avios on peak dates.

In February and March flyers can book a BA Club Suite (above) to Frankfurt, Berlin and Dublin

Quoting data from Cirium, Simple Flying revealed that BA is putting Dreamliners and 777s on short-haul duties on the following days:

  • Frankfurt – February 18, 25; March 4, 6, 7, 11, 16, 23, 24; April 3, 4, 5, 7, 10, 11, 12 (x2), 14, 17, 18, 19, 21, 24, 25, 26, 28.
  • Berlin – March 4, 25.
  • Dublin – March 5, 7.

Google Flights will reveal which type of aircraft is being used.

And if an ‘individual suite’ is indicated, that means that you’re getting BA’s new Club Suite, which features a privacy door.

Why is BA operating long-haul aircraft on these short-haul trips? Most likely because the carrier is anticipating heavier cargo loads.
