First look at Disney’s new beach retreat with family cabanas and water slides

Disney holidays are already firmly on most families' bucket lists – but a Disney holiday in the Bahamas? That really is the stuff of dreams.

That's exactly what's on offer for holidaymakers who embark on Disney Cruise Line sailings – and now Mickey Mouse and his friends have unveiled a brand new destination that's going straight on our travel wishlist.

That's because Disney's cruise line has unveiled Lighthouse Point, its brand new "one-of-a-kind island destination", on the island of Eleuthera in The Bahamas.

Although the island isn't opening until next year, the brand has already released some concept imagery – and it looks set to be a seriously fun location.

Passengers on cruises will be able to enjoy a lavish day out on the dreamy island, with heaps of those pristine white sand beaches for guests – including a dedicated family beach right by a market-style dining area, activities and other amenities.

But that's not all. Lighthouse Point will also boast a water play area complete with two slides, water drums, fountains and more, as well as a fun area for toddlers.

Other fun on offer will include a volleyball court, covered gaming pavilion, bike and watersports hire, and heaps of nature trails for those who fancy a hike or bicycle ride.

There'll even be a themed kids' club complete with a Little Mermaid inspired splash pad, and family-friendly cabanas you can hire.

The luxurious spot will also offer an adults-only beach complete with its own dining area and six private cabanas that can be booked ahead of time.

Meanwhile, all guests will also enjoy extra perks such as complimentary beach essentials (towels, chairs and umbrellas and lunch) and convenient tram transportation.

Other highlights will include an art and culture pavillion, Bahamian storytelling with favourite Disney characters, and colourful buildings designed to look like Bahamian shells, with artwork from local artists.

Disney Cruise Line says at least 90% of the destination's electricity will be met by an onsite solar array to keep the impact on the landscape to a minimum.

Lighthouse Point will open in summer 2024 on selected sailings, although Disney has yet to reveal exact dates and details.

Sharon Siskie, senior vice president and general manager, Disney Cruise Line said: "At Disney Cruise Line, we have a deep appreciation for the Bahamian community.

"We are connected in many ways, including our shared values of storytelling and hospitality. With the opening of Lighthouse Point, visitors from around the world will experience the magic of The Bahamas in a new way, one that truly celebrates its natural and cultural beauty."
