- It is the first carrier in the UK to offer the augmented reality tech to passengers
- Easyjet says the app will give customers peace of mind before they reach airport
Passengers travelling on easyJet can now check if their hand luggage will be allowed into the cabin – before they even reach the airport.
The Luton-based airline has become the first in the UK to offer a feature on its phone app that enables customers to scan their cabin bag and check it’s within the size limit.
And the carrier says it is an easy way for customers to check their hand luggage dimensions, giving them peace of mind before they travel to the airport.
The new feature on the easyJet app that allows customers to size their bags. The scan itself provides an on-screen 3D box which when combined with the phone’s camera sizes the cabin bag and indicates whether it fits within the maximum dimensions
It adds that if used correctly, passengers won’t be faced with any additional charges at the gate for bringing an oversized cabin bag.
The new feature sits on easyJet’s app and uses Apple’s ARKit 2 technology, which is only currently available on iOS.
The app works by using augmented reality technology combined with customers’ smart phone cameras (iPhone 6S onwards).
