Southwest expands service to Hawaii

Southwest is doubling down on Hawaii, with three new mainland gateways and bolstered service from its existing departure cities.

The carrier will add Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Phoenix to its growing list of departure cities to Hawaii.

Southwest flights from Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Phoenix to Honolulu and Maui will begin in June. The carrier will also begin flights from Los Angeles to Kauai and Los Angeles to Kona on the Island of Hawaii in June. Service on all the new routes will be at least daily, with the highest frequency scheduled at three times per day for Los Angeles-Maui.

Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Phoenix will join Southwest’s existing Hawaii gateways of Oakland, Sacramento, San Jose, Long Beach and San Diego, Calif. Among those five stations, San Diego will get the largest boost in Hawaii service, with Southwest adding routes to Maui, Lihue and Kona while doubling service to Honolulu to twice daily.

The carrier will also increase frequencies on existing service from Long Beach to Honolulu; Oakland to Honolulu; and San Jose to Maui.
