Friday, Aug. 2 marks International Beer Day. While most people will celebrate by enjoying a pint or two, Richard Branson is celebrating a little differently.
On Thursday, Branson and his new cruise company Virgin Voyages announced it will be serving up a brand-new signature craft beer on board all its upcoming ships. The beer from the U.K. entrepreneur will be — what else — an English Pale Ale.
According to Virgin Voyages, the English Pale Ale will come with a hint of red and will be sold throughout the boat the Scarlet Lady. It will also be featured in its onboard tap room the Draught Haus.
But, the beer isn’t quite finished yet. Before travelers can enjoy the beer onb oard next year, Virgin Voyages is calling on you to help name it.
Virgin Voyages is asking its social media followers to suggest their favorite names for the brew by commenting on their Instagram post at @VirginVoyages.
The beer, Virgin Voyages explained in a statement, was created alongside Miami’s Wynwood Brewing Company. The two companies created the special brew to connect both the American and English brewing traditions. It’s specifially brewed using American malts and hops in Miami but using an English yeast to bring it all together. According to Virgin Voyages, the beer is “approachable” for even novice beer drinkers.
“Virgin Voyages always loves a challenge and so we asked ourselves, 'how can we create the most perfect beer to be enjoyed in the midday sun?’” Charles Steadman, Senior Manager of Beverage Development for Virgin Voyages, said in a statement. “We have created the perfect pale ale that is both thirst quenching and refreshingly delicious, but of course, created with a Virgin twist, as we have given our pale beer a little kiss of scarlet red. And who better to partner with on this exciting endeavor than Wynwood Brewing Company, based in Scarlet Lady’s home port of Miami.”
