Key Dubai highway project set for H1 2019 completion

A major highway project in Dubai is set to open in the first half of 2019 as part of directives from ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to speed up the implementation of a five-year roads and transport plan.

Mattar Al Tayer, director-general and chairman of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced that the completion rate in Tripoli Street Improvement Project has reached 60 percent.

The 12km street linking Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road will act as a parallel street to the Airport Street, he said, adding that the project is expected to be completed and opened in the first six months of 2019.

“The new project will increase the street’s intake to about 12,000 vehicles per hour in both directions and ease the traffic flow on this corridor by 30 percent,” said Al Tayer.

The project includes the widening of Tripoli Street over a 6.5km stretch and the construction of a new 5.3km-long road of three lanes in each direction from the intersection of Tripoli-Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Streets up to the Emirates Road.
