Hong Kong Airlines will end service to US

Hong Kong Airlines will halt its four-times weekly service to Los Angeles, effective Feb. 8.

The move is part of the cost-saving measures the carrier is implementing as it struggles against the impact of pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong and financial difficulties that preceded the protests.

Los Angeles is the only U.S. destination that Hong Kong Airlines serves. The carrier launched the route in December 2017. Its cut is part of a broader 6% capacity reduction that the airline said Monday that it will implement. Hong Kong Airlines also said it could end the Los Angeles routes before Feb. 8 depending upon demand. Affected passengers will be offered alternative travel arrangements.

Cathay Pacific and American Airlines are the other two airlines that fly Los Angeles-Hong Kong, according to the website Flight Connections.
