ST LUCIA ROOTS & SOUL FEST: make a date with the cream of cool sounds

Part of a summer celebration marking the 40th anniversary of independence, events will kick off on Friday, August 23, at a new indoor venue The Ramp on Rodney Bay. The night of spoken word and music with showcase Saint Lucian born poet and performer Curmiah Lisette with appearances by other Saint Lucian artists, including soulful singer-songwriter of neo-soul, alternative, reggae and calypso genres, Naomie “Ngozi” Grandison. 

Next up is hip-hop, rap and R&B singer Asher “Smallz” Small. The night will end on a high note with awe-inspiring Trinidadian rapso band, 3Canal.

Day two of the festival, August 24, moves to national landmark the historic Pigeon Island and headlining there will be Leee John, the British soul sensation who is deeply proud of his St Lucian heritage.  

“Its always such fun when I have the opportunity in my crazy work schedule to go back home and visit the island of Saint Lucia as that’s where my family are from,” he said.  “I’m incredibly excited and honoured to be invited this year with my band to perform and with so many other talented artist/musicians.”

Also on stage will be award-winning songwriter, Nigerian superstar, Timaya and reggae legend, Tarrus Riley featuring British singer-songwriter, Estelle.

The festival’s third day, August 25, will feature Saint Lucian-Canadian jazz and R&B balladeer, ZAMANI before Saint Lucian Sherwinn ‘Dupes’ Brice takes the stage, followed by R&B duo Ginuwine and Grammy Award winner Mya, 

Timeless reggae stars UB40 featuring Ali Campbell and Astro will headline wrapping up a festival renowned for welcoming music lovers from across the world. 

Tickets to Saint Lucia Roots & Soul are set at US$20.00 (£16.50) for Friday’s show and at US$40.00 (£33) for shows on Saturday and Sunday.
