Reports: Walt Disney World hikes annual pass prices ahead of Star Wars land opening

Walt Disney World is raising prices on some of its annual passes, according to reports.

Disney fans and bloggers woke up Tuesday to find prices for most passes had gone up overnight, as much as $150 in some cases, according to Orlando NBC affiliate WESH2 and The Orlando Sentinel.

The price increases come ahead of the Aug. 29 opening of Disney World’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. The attraction opened up at Disney Land on May 31.

This marks Disney World’s second price hike so far this year — the first focused on increasing the cost of tickets around the holidays. In March, the park raised ticket prices for the dates around Christmas and New Year’s Eve to $159, up $30 from last year. Prices for dates around other holidays like Memorial Day and Easter also increased, as part of a new date-based, surge pricing system, announced in October. The system sets prices based on how popular the day is expected to be.
