One of Mexico’s travel trends that is here to stay is the uber-luxe resort. Spectacular hotels across the country are raising the bar on a traditional five-star stay, and big brand names from all over the globe are helping to deliver the very best that Mexico has to offer.

Going into 2022, luxury travel will continue to be one of the most popular niches in a country that is overflowing with options. These resorts will embody the other important travel trends in Mexico, like wellness, local experiences and getting in touch with nature.

For those planning a Mexico escape in 2022, here are several new resorts to keep on your radar:

Casa Chable, Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve

Slated to open this spring, Casa Chable will be the next resort to join the ultrahigh-end Chable family. The resort brand already has two exquisite resorts in the Yucatan and on the Riviera Maya and is opening a fourth in Baja California Sur in 2023.

The imminent luxury resort will be one of the most unique on the Riviera Maya, as it is one of the only resorts within the protected Sian Ka’an Biosphere Preserve. Guests will arrive to the resort via a 35-minute boat ride through the mangrove forests to the private dock of the intimate property perched atop a white-sand beach surrounded by the jungle of the preserve

The small resort will have just 10 rooms, including five standalone beachfront bungalows with outdoor showers. A main villa will have an additional five rooms, each with its own private terrace. Additional amenities will include a thatched-roof gourmet restaurant, oceanfront wellness cabana, rooftop lounge and bar and a private beach.

Four Seasons Tamarindo

Mexico’s Costalegre, the rugged and wild stretch of Pacific coast south of Puerto Vallarta, has been a high-end hideaway for those in the know for years. But coming in the spring this year, Four Seasons is going to shine a brighter spotlight on one of Mexico’s still secret coasts.

Located on a private peninsula, the Four Seasons Resort Tamarindo will have 157 accommodations, including 63 suites, as well as private residences. Rooms and suites will have views of the ocean or the lush, mountainous jungles that back the coastline. Cliffside Suites will have their own private swimming pools. The resort will also have several beaches and three pool areas as well as four restaurants and bars and an organic spa with eight treatment rooms. 

Luxe touches include everything from a private boat dock to an in-house astronomer, who can guide guests on a journey through the stars. The resort sits on 3,000 acres of natural reserve, with six miles of coastline. Truly a jungle jewel, the resort is committed to keeping the environment protected, as only 2 percent of the reserve will be developed for the resort.

Ritz-Carlton, Mexico City

The Ritz-Carlton Mexico City officially opened its doors on Oct. 28, 2021 — a landmark achievement considering it spent six years in development. The luxe city escape opened with 153 rooms as part of a 58-story skyscraper that overlooks the famous Chapultepec Park.

Within the hotel, guests will find the Ritz-Carlton Club Lounge that features an exclusive concierge, a heated indoor swimming pool and the famous Ritz-Carlton Spa. Guests can dine at the signature Samos restaurant and bar, which serves Mediterranean-style cuisine in its 38th-floor perch.

Waldorf Astoria Cancun

Slated to open in September, the Waldorf Astoria Cancun is poised to be the next Grande Dame of the Mexican Caribbean coast. Set on 100 acres of coastline, the ultrasophisticated Cancun resort will have a wide variety of guestrooms and suites to choose from, including oceanfront swim-up rooms and suites.

Five food and beverage options are on property, as well, from the all-day Brasserie serving international and Mexican cuisine to the sleek and minimalist Malpeque, which serves grilled seafood. Other options include the Peacock Alley lounge and bar, the pool bar and the beach bar and grill.

Other amenities will include a fitness center, spa, pool and even pet-friendly rooms. 

Banyan Tree Puebla

In November, Banyan Tree Hotels expanded its swanky and sophisticated brand away from the beach destinations and into the colonial city scene. The Banyan Tree Puebla opened its doors in the former Azul Talavera Hotel.

Banyan Tree’s previous resorts in Mexico are beach-centric, being located in Acapulco and on the Riviera Maya. The Puebla property puts a new spin on things, with spectacular city views of the churches, rooftops and the looming volcanoes that rise into the clouds around Puebla. 

Here guests will find 78 residential-style rooms as well as the brand’s signature restaurant, Saffron. Additional amenities include the Bar Los Lavaderos and a rooftop terrace.

Susurros del Corazon

The next Auberge Collection resort is coming to Mexico this year, too. Susurros del Corazon is a highly anticipated property that will open on the Riviera Nayarit. 

Sitting on 33 acres that overlook the Bay of Banderas, this Punta de Mita property will have 59 suites and 30 residential homes. Four dining concepts, a sprawling fitness center and yoga studio and the Auberge Spa are among the amenities guests can expect. 

The accommodations here sit perched above the cliffs that overlook the sea. Materials used in the design include slate and stone, and each space is drenched in natural light. 

The resort has 2,000 feet of beachfront, as well. Families can play in the two family pools, while those looking for tranquility can disconnect at the adults-only pool. A beach club features cabanas and cocktails, as well. The spa has 11 treatment rooms, while the resort will also organize boot camps, yoga programs and trail runs.
