The Sonesta Resorts on St. Maarten are in the process of completing renovations and are on target for their scheduled reopenings, Sonesta said this month.
The Sonesta Ocean Point Resort will reopen Dec. 15, while the Sonesta Maho Beach Resort, Casino & Spa will reopen Feb. 1.
The two properties have been closed since being heavily damaged by Hurricane Irma. Sonesta said in a statement that in addition to the guest upgrades, the resorts have incorporated storm-resistant materials and “the latest architectural innovations” during the renovation, which owner/operator the Maho Group discussed earlier this year.
“Guests will be wowed by the resorts’ new upgrades, amenities and contemporary look,” Sonesta said.
Sonesta Maho Beach Resort, Casino, and Spa is being updated with a clean, airy aesthetic throughout the public spaces, restaurants and guest rooms. The rooms have a new, modern look with larger bathrooms that let in natural light. New furniture includes bedding and mattresses.
The oceanview Loft Suites, a new category, have balconies, an elevated bedroom with a king bed, and a living room beneath with a sitting area and a pull-out sofa.
Sonesta said the “much-loved modern Caribbean” design in guest and public rooms at the Sonesta Ocean Point will remain the same, and that the lobby was redesigned in a contemporary style.
It will open Casa Blue, a new Spanish-style tapas restaurant, which will sit on the rooftop terrace above Azul Restaurant.
The resort has 130 rooms, three pools, four bars and two restaurants. Guests of Ocean Point have access to all the services and facilities at Sonesta Maho Beach Resort, which has an additional five restaurants and bars.
