Sandals managed AC hotel opens in Kingston

AC Hotels by Marriott opened the AC Hotel Kingston on June 17, the first AC to debut in Jamaica and the second in the Caribbean. Sandals Resorts International owns and will operate the property.

In a departure from its all-inclusive formula, Sandals partnered with Marriott International to bring the lifestyle AC Hotels by Marriott brand to Jamaica, representing Sandals’ first major tourism venture outside of its Sandals and Beaches Resorts.

The venture marks the first time that Sandals is managing a brand that it did not create.

“My family and I are determined to play our part in building the economy in the Caribbean,” said Adam Stewart, deputy chairman of Sandals Resorts International. “This is a monumental occasion as we venture beyond the beach to establish our first AC Hotel by Marriott.”

The 219-room AC Hotel Kingston features a 24-hour fitness center; a pool and pool bar; the brand’s signature AC Kitchen, which offers a daily, European-style breakfast buffet with Jamaican specialties; the AC Lounge, which serves tapas, lunch and dinner; an art collection crafted by Jamaican artists; locally-made furnishings; and 18,000 square feet of meeting and banquet facilities.

Island Routes Caribbean Adventures has a location in the hotel.

The Stewart family named Koen Hietbrink general manager.
Hietbrink, who has 14 years with the Marriott brand, has managed
numerous Marriott properties in the Caribbean.

The AC
brand was founded in 1998 in Spain, was brought into the Marriott
International portfolio in 2011 and has since launched in parts of
Europe, the U.S., Latin America and the Caribbean.

Room-only rates at the $50 million hotel in the heart of Kingston’s business and entertainment sector start at $300 per night, double. Meals and beverages are billed separately.
