The project, which is estimated to cost over $200 million, will include Hilton Canberra that will comprise of 253 guest rooms, including 18 spacious suites, a signature restaurant and bar, luxury retail outlets, a fitness centre, pool, spa facilities and meeting and event space.
Attached to the hotel will be an International Hotel School and Child Care & Learning Centre, designed to host diplomatic services, technology, and trade related providers.
From a building and design perspective, the Consortium are proposing an International Design competition as well as an energy efficient building. This will include several innovations, such as water management and recycling, rain water capture, smart glass panels, solar systems, as well as heat and ventilation systems, to not only create a cool and comfortable environment for guests, but also create minimal impact on environment.
Michael Kyriacou, director, Ledrae Hotels Pty Ltd, said, “We are excited to bring such an iconic brand such as Hilton to our nation capital. The hotel will be a significant asset to the city, capitalising on the enormous growth in tourism – particularly the outbound tourism market and will help ACT compete with other global cities for major international conferences and events.”
