Seeing the Northern Lights , taking a trip on the Jacobite and having afternoon tea at the Ritz have been named Brits' top bucket list experiences in the UK.
Research by Travelodge found that 53 per cent of British adults made a New Year's resolution to start a UK bucket list in 2020, unveiling the experiences that proved most popular.
Top of the list? Seeing the Northern Lights. Although the likes of Norway and Iceland have a reputation for offering up views of the Aurora Borealis, there are actually plenty of UK spots where you can see the Lights .
For example, Scotland is particularly popular thanks to its remote northern landscapes with little light pollution which make for excellent Aurora spotting points.
Second on the list was taking a trip on the Jacobite train from Fort William to Mallaig. Of course, Harry Potter fans may know it better as the Hogwarts Express – the train was actually used as a stand in for the films.
The third most popular experience was having afternoon tea at the Ritz, the swanky hotel in London renowned for its glitz and glamour.
However, the classic experience isn't particularly budget-friendly – so if you are looking for afternoon tea on a budget, we've searched out the best afternoon teas in London which won't break the bank.
Food was actually a prominent theme for the bucket list experiences, especially when it came to tasting local delicacies; eating Haggis in Scotland, cream tea in Devon, pasties in Cornwall, Scouse in Liverpool and Scrumpy in Somerset were all on the list.
Meanwhile, a Sunday lunch in a traditional countryside pub was also a popular option (and one that can easily be ticked off!)
The study found that the average Brit's UK bucket list consists of around 22 experiences and could take around nine years to accomplish.
Of course, budget can play a big role in trying to tick off plenty of destinations – so to give you a helping hand, Travelodge has released three million rooms for less than £35 a night, available to book on the Travelodge website .
