Port Macquarie Appoints Gate 7 as its Destination PR Office

Port Macquarie-Hastings Council – driving tourism growth to the Greater Port Macquarie region on New South Wales’ Mid North Coast – has appointed tourism marketing agency, Gate 7 following a competitive pitch.

The contract will see Gate 7 work with Port Macquarie-Hastings Council to deliver its overall domestic tourism communications strategy, driving awareness of the region through an integrated program that aligns content, PR, social media, influencer engagement, and consumer marketing activity.

Located a four drive from Sydney in Northern New South Wales, Port Macquarie is a laid-back coastal town boasting pristine beaches, lush rainforest, abundant wildlife, farm-to-table cuisine including the region’s only hatted restaurant, local vineyards and a variety of boutique accommodation options.

“We are thrilled to announce that Gate 7 has come on board as our PR agency to drive awareness of Greater Port Macquarie’s compelling tourism proposition,” says Liesa Davies, Group Manager Economic Development & Communications at Port Macquarie-Hastings Council. “In this fiercely competitive domestic tourism market, it’s key that we take an integrated, innovative approach to our communications strategy. We believe that in partnership with Gate 7, we can take our PR activity to the next level, ultimately increasing visitation and generating real business outcomes for our stakeholder network”.

Gate 7 kicked off the new contract with a series of live TV broadcasts, hosting Seven’s Weekend Sunrise crew led by weather front-man James Tobin last Saturday. Filmed at Town Beach and Town Green, the segments highlighted Port Macquarie’s diverse offerings including its unique arts scene and upcoming ArtWalk event, koalas and crocs from Billabong Zoo, whale watching with Port Jet Cruise Adventures, the iconic Koala Sculpture Trail, and a show-stopping dessert from the hatted restaurant, The Stunned Mullet.

This recent appointment tops off an incredible start to 2019 for Gate 7, following an array of new client wins including SeaDream Yacht Club, and Virginia Tourism Corporation, in addition to the agency’s major rebrand and 21st Birthday celebrations last month.

“The Gate 7 team is delighted to have landed the Port Macquarie account after a competitive pitch process,” says Sophie Taylor, Director of PR & Content, Gate 7. “It’s an exciting expansion into the domestic tourism sector for the agency, and we look forward to leveraging our strong tourism marketing experience to put this special region of Australia in the spotlight.”
