Brisbane’s first indoor skydiving centre launches today

Suit up and prepare to experience the thrill of skydiving with Brisbane’s first iFLY Indoor Skydiving Centre launching today at Westfield Chermside.

The city’s most exciting new attraction simulates the sensation of skydiving in true freefall conditions using iFLY’s very latest vertical wind tunnel (VWT) – no parachutes or planes required!

iFLY’s VWT generates wind from above, channels it down the tunnel’s sides then pushes it through the floor of an enclosed flight chamber to create a stable cushion of air on which to float.

IFLY Australia’s General manager Nir Davidson said iFLY was a safe and exciting experience that welcomed thrill-seekers aged three to 103 years old, as well as people of all physical ability.

“This is a completely new experience for the Brisbane market,” Mr Davidson said.

“The ability to deliver that dream of flight to everyone – regardless of their age or physical dexterity – is a key vision for us as an organisation.

“Additionally, the advanced technology used by iFly enables us operate to the highest safety standards and maintain an immaculate safety record.”

Participants are supervised throughout the experience by a certified skydiving instructor, led by Brisbane’s Lead Instructor Jarrad Kline who has worked for iFLY across the globe and has clocked up tens of thousands of hours in the VWT.

Mr Davidson said iFLY spent four years scouting Brisbane for its perfect home.

“We took our time to find the right site and we chose Westfield Chermside, not just because of its location, but because of where we fit into the centre’s new entertainment precinct.

“Southeast Queensland’s population is booming and Brisbane, in particular, continues to grow as a tourist destination.

“The demand is there for a unique entertainment attraction with widespread appeal and what could be more exhilarating than flying in the air?”

iFLY Brisbane has enjoyed strong advance bookings ahead of today’s launch, not just among adrenaline-seeking individuals but also for corporate events and birthday parties.

The specialised technology that drives iFLY also comes under the microscope with the Brisbane centre hosting STEM (Science Technology Engineering Maths) sessions for schools.

“There’s a real buzz within the education sector and iFLY Brisbane has a dedicated education officer who has great experience custom-building STEM programs for primary, middle and senior school students,” Mr Davidson said.
