Robertson Public House and Kitchen has made a stunning debut at the Australian Hotels Association (NSW) Awards for Excellence, taking home a coveted award at its first attempt.

The newly branded establishment was voted ‘Best Regional Casual Dining’ (southern region) at a gala dinner at The Star in Sydney this week, ahead of nine other finalists in a highly competitive field including Bundanoon Hotel, Headlands Austinmer Beach and Bowral’s Royal Hotel.

Co-owner Stan Crinis said it was a win for supporting local suppliers.

“One of our key initiatives since taking over the hotel a year ago was to place greater emphasis on supporting local small-production providores,” he said.

“Our menu features local cheeses, milk, fruit, meat, olives, vegetables, beer and source ingredients, so our customers can enjoy an authentic Southern Highlands experience.

Mr Crinis, who has forged his name in hospitality with Dagwood small bar and Diggies café in Wollongong, said there were a couple of key components to quickly establishing Robertson Public House and Kitchen as a popular foodie destination.

“Utilising seasonal ingredients and creating specials that showcase great seasonal product is very important,” he said. “But you also have to provide a balanced menu that caters for everyone. You can dine on beetroot-cured salmon, or fried cauliflower with pomegranate molasses, but if you’re after more traditional fare, there’s always our famous chicken parma, or a prime cut sourced from Maugers’ butchery.

“Friendly service is also such a big part of the dining experience these days. How you’re welcomed and treated can leave a lasting impression, so while we can always improve, it’s something we’re very mindful of. Our wonderful staff play a huge part in fostering a friendly atmosphere – this award really is thanks to them and our suppliers.”

Robertson Public House and Kitchen, affectionately known as ‘Robbo Pub’, will release its new summer menu in coming weeks. Drop in for a quick drink or long lunch to see what all the fuss is about.
