Sanctuary Retreats opening new tented lodge in Kenya

Sanctuary Retreats plans to open a new lodge, Sanctuary Tambarare, at the foot of Mount Kenya in June 2022. The lodge, which will feature 10 luxury guest tents, looks out across the grassy plateau of the 90,000-acre Ol Pejeta Conservancy, which is home to the last two northern white rhinos.

The individually decorated canvas tents have a “boutique-meets-bush” style with a decor that reflect the local culture. Each luxury guest tent features a private veranda overlooking the plains.

At Sanctuary Tambarare, guests can explore Ol Pejeta Conservancy with daily game drives. In addition to the Big Five and many other animals (from cheetahs and jackals to hippos and hyenas), the conservancy is home to over 130 black rhinos.

Guests who enjoy fitness activities can embark on a cycling safari, run a 3- to 4-mile trail through the conservancy or join an hour coach-led class with a focus on functional fitness. Community interactions are available for those who want to learn more about the communities surrounding Ol Pejeta.

“Tambarare sets the benchmark for exclusive five-star luxury safaris at the world-renowned Ol Pejeta Conservancy. It’s an area where all of the Big Five are found, and lion tracking is an option, but is best known for its conservation efforts in saving the last northern white rhino,” says Go2Africa safari expert Lauren Johansson.
