Virgin Voyages opens its new cruise terminal in Miami

Virgin Voyages opened its new terminal at PortMiami Sunday, a three-story, LEED Gold-certified building named Terminal V.

Located at 718 N. Cruise Blvd. — the address nods to the July 18 birthday of Virgin Group founder Richard Branson — the 132,000-square-foot structure includes an alfresco terrace, a VIP entrance and a rooftop resembling the edges of a palm canopy.

The terminal will be the homeport for the Scarlet Lady, Virgin’s first ship. The line’s second ship, the Valiant Lady, will join in the winter of 2022.

“Coming to this beautiful new terminal and seeing Scarlet Lady in her home port here in Miami has been such an incredible experience,” Branson said. “The team at Virgin Voyages has created a stunning building that delivers on our commitment to being better stewards of the earth with its LEED Gold certification.”

The structure was designed by architecture and landscape firm Arquitectonica and built by Suffolk Construction and is just one of a series of design-forward terminals being built at PortMiami. Norwegian Cruise Line’s Pearl of Miami, another LEED Gold-certified building, opened last year, following Royal Caribbean Group’s structure, and there are two in the works for MSC Cruises and Carnival Cruise Line.
