When cruise passengers board the ship, their luggage will be checked by security. The main luggage will then be taken and delivered to the cabin later that day.

Passengers will be able to keep their hand luggage with them as they explore the ship before gaining access to their cabin.

Guests will need to make sure they have any medication or essential items in their hand luggage.

But there are a few other important items that guests will need to make sure are in the right bag.

One passenger warned: “We forgot to put our bathing suits in our bag boarding the ship and had to wait a few hours until our rolling bags got dropped off at our room.”

Another guest said: “Even more important? Suncream! Take that out of your check bags after the flight and put it in your carry-on before boarding the ship.

“Too many cruises dampened by a day one sunburn.”

Burning on the first day could ruin a cruise holiday so guests should try to put their suncream in their hand luggage after their flight lands.

The cruise ship will normally sell suncream for guests but it’s often more expensive than bringing cream from home.

A passenger warned: “Most of the time we get our luggage mid-afternoon but a couple of times it’s been late that night.”

A guest shared another warning for new cruise passengers to help keep them safe while onboard.

They said: “Between the sun, the spa and the booze, it’s really easy to get dehydrated.

“That and sometimes the only water you’re getting is when you sit down and eat. My best practice is to chug a few litres when I get a chance.”

It can be easy to become dehydrated on a cruise ship as guests often spend a long time in the sun.

Guests should be careful if they are drinking a lot as it can be very easy to become dehydrated.

Although the hot tub is usually very popular on a cruise ship, it can be dangerous for people who have been drinking.

The combination of the hot water and dehydration can quickly make a passenger ill and people will need to take care to hydrate.

Luckily cruise ships usually have water fountains and other soft drink stations around the ship.

On some cruise lines, drinks such as juice and iced tea are free for every passenger on the ship.

Guests can also take bottled water on and off the ship when they leave to go on an excursion.

If passengers are feeling unwell they will need to speak to a crew member who will be able to get help.
