Take a sneak peek inside MSC Seaside from Secrets of the Mega Cruise Ship

Cruise ships today are bigger than ever, upping the stakes in entertainment with everything from zip lines to Broadway-worthy shows, and swish cabins.

The industry has come a long way since the first cruise holidays took to the sea.

Some ships really do ramp up the ante – and MSC Seaside is a perfect example, with the ability to host over 5,000 guests each week to enjoy everything from the onboard zip line to the 19 bars and lounges.

Therefore it’s no surprise that the MSC Cruises ship is the star of Channel 5 documentary Secrets of the Mega Cruise Ship, offering passengers a behind-the-scenes glimpse of what to expect when they step on board.

The documentary follows the ship during her sailings to the Caribbean from Miami, with ports of call to sun-soaked destinations including Ocho Rios, Jamaica, Cozumel, Mexico and Nassau in the Bahamas.

(If you are feeling tempted, seven-night itineraries on MSC Seaside start from £579pp).

The programme offers a sneak peek at everything from the show rehearsals to restaurant service, all through the eyes of the 1,500 officers and crew who help make sure everything is smooth sailing, 365 days a year.

Of course, there’s a lot to manage.

For a start, passengers won’t go hungry thanks to the 11 unique dining venues which include buffets, a seafood restaurant, steakhouse, bistro, creperie, and sushi bar.

Then there are the 19 bars and lounges where guests can enjoy an afternoon coffee or pre-dinner cocktail, as well as the eight music venues where you’ll find live performances and even an on-board nightclub.

Boasting a gross tonnage of 154,000, MSC Seaside first set sail in December 2017, six months before her sister ship MSC Seaview also took to the sea.

In fact, she has a higher ratio of outdoor space per guest than any other ship in the MSC fleet, perfect for those who want to take in the ocean views.

Sailings are about to get an extra touch of glamour too as from November 2019, she’ll also be calling at MSC Cruises’ private island Ocean Cay.

Antonio Paradiso, Managing Director for MSC Cruises UK and Ireland, said: "It is an honour to have this great opportunity to show the British public another of our beautiful ships and all the onboard features we are famous for, whilst also offering a unique behind-the-scenes look at the goings on of one of the world’s most advanced cruise ships.

"There is no better way to demonstrate how fantastic cruising is than to physically show people, and this feature-length documentary provides a great opportunity to do just that."
