The experiences varied from being embarrassing to harrowing, as the passengers revealed all.

They said: “A man died on a snorkel excursion we took on our honeymoon cruise.

“We were on Honeymoon Beach on St John and I guess he had a heart attack and they were doing chest compressions for a solid 40 minutes or more.

“The ambulance arrived but there are no hospitals on the island so there was nothing that could be done.

“The captain of our catamaran corralled everybody back onto the boat and left the man on the beach with a towel over his face.

“The man’s family stayed behind, I suppose they were going to airlift his body away.

“It was supposed to be a drinking and party ride back, but the mood was very sombre.

“No one really felt like laughing after that.”

The Reddit user added that while it was sad for them, she couldn’t imagine how hard it was for the man’s family.

She added: “While it was super sad/scary for us, I can’t imagine being a member of that man’s family.

“I hope they have found a sense of peace.”

St John island is the smallest of the three US Virgin Islands which are in the Caribbean Sea.

The islands are mainly occupied by a National Park.

Dolphins can often be seen inhabiting the islands’ waters.
