WHY IT RATES: With rooms starting at $545 per night, this new resort, directly across from the boardwalk and beach, will be focused squarely on the luxury market.—Mia Taylor, TravelPulse Senior Writer
This summer, the Jersey Shore welcomes Wave Resort, a best-in-class boutique, oceanfront hotel in the heart of Pier Village.
Opening May 2019 and now taking reservations, Wave Resort is located directly across from the boardwalk and beach in Long Branch, NJ—only an hour away from Manhattan by rail, road, or ferry—and will introduce an unmatched standard in design, quality, and service to the region.
The six-story, 67-key hotel from Kushner satisfies the area’s shortage of luxury lodging options while offering the surrounding community a place to gather, dine, and play in the beloved “City by the Sea.”
Wave Resort reimagines the typical beachfront hotel both in spirit and design, forgoing tired nautical color palettes in favor of a more modern aesthetic, distinctive architecture, and luxury amenities.
Featuring seven new restaurants and bars; a spectacular outdoor pool deck with fire pits and 180-degree beach views; and onsite spa, blow-dry bar, and fitness center, the hotel will serve as a world-class oasis for the best that Pier Village has to offer.
“The development of Pier Village represents the rebuilding of Long Branch’s town center,” says Nicole Meyer, principal at Kushner. “I spent my summers in Long Branch and Pier Village has been part of my upbringing and internal DNA. As I have grown and times have changed, I am looking to build my children’s memories. This project is not just a real estate investment to our company but is an extension of who we are and what we stand for.”
Renowned hospitality group APICII serves as the visionary behind the property’s seven brand new F&B concepts, including seasonal fine dining seafood and coastal casual restaurants; a boardwalk coffee shop; swim-up pool bar; and a hybrid burger-and-taco shop that is perfect for beachside bites and pool snacks.
Wave Resort’s crown jewel, a sweeping 7,125-square-foot indoor-outdoor event space, resides on the sixth floor beneath the hotel’s distinct wave-shaped rooftop. The glass-enclosed top-floor space, named High Crest, features dazzling, 360-degree views of the Pier Village boardwalk, ocean waves, and Shore sands, and includes an ocean-facing bar and wrap-around alfresco terrace.
“Partnering on the restaurants at Wave Resort at Pier Village is a rare opportunity to revive a storied beachfront property,” says Tom Dillon, CEO & founder of APICII. “Having spent my childhood on the Jersey Shore, developing the restaurants at Wave Resort is meaningful on a personal level. The resort town’s history and the Jersey Shore’s abundant seafood, farms and produce have provided strong inspiration for the restaurants and bars we’re creating at the hotel.”
Design of Wave Resort’s many dynamic public spaces comes from Brooklyn-based Dutch East Design, bringing a casual yet sophisticated atmosphere to Long Branch and the Jersey Shore.
Flawlessly combining beachside informality with world-class amenities and modern comfort, Wave Resort’s design reinvigorates the locale’s splendor and beauty without being a coastal cliché.
Every inch of the hotel, from reading nook to bar stool, serves as an extension of Pier Village’s iconic and nostalgia-inducing boardwalk, which inspired each of the F&B venues’ unique identities.
Upon entering the living room-style lobby, eyes will immediately be drawn to a bespoke, gallery-worthy concrete reception desk. Framed vistas juxtaposed with natural, warm raw materials; color-blocked, dusty, sunset-toned fabrics; and crisp graphic designs make for an interactive and inviting foyer space that is perfect for relaxing with a cocktail or playing pool with friends.
Each restaurant and bar, from the boardwalk café to the richly toned brasserie-style fine dining room to the second-floor pool deck, serves as a collection of communal lounging spaces that seamlessly transition from work to play throughout the day.
Stunning ocean views, private walk-out balconies, and sleek “urban coastal” finishes are the focal points for Wave Resort’s modern room design from Hirsch Bedner Associates (HBA).
Each room is configured to provide breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean from spacious terraces and through floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall windows that bathe the space in sunlight. Blackened wood finishes and rope details are integrated throughout, giving way to an elevated, restrained setting that will appeal to both an international and local crowd.
A long-beloved destination for families in the Tri-State area, Long Branch is New Jersey’s up-and-coming shore town during the summer months and beyond.
The area is experiencing an immense, ongoing revitalization, with a brewery, numerous new restaurants, parks, and mixed-used community developments all opening around the centrally located Festival Plaza. Pier Village’s ease of accessibility via train and ample year-round programming makes for a perfect destination for New Yorkers looking to escape the city, families on the hunt for their next vacation, and more.
“Over the past three years, we’ve been working hard to expand our events program and boardwalk experience at Pier Village for visitors and Long Branch residents,” says Karen Zabarsky, Creative Director of Kushner. “We’ve collaborated with local artists and business owners to make our community more vibrant, and are excited to bring that same infusion of Long Branch character to Wave Resort.”
Wave Resort is located at 100 Ocean Ave, Long Branch, NJ 07740. Wave Resort is a member of the Preferred Hotels & Resorts Lifestyle Collection, which represents premier global properties that offer engaging stays and memorable moments. Rates start at $545 per night.
