Sandals Resorts International has decided to
keep the Beaches Turks & Caicos open.
Sandals had planned to close the resort for stints in 2019
and 2020 and indefinitely in 2021, saying the Caribbean island’s government
raised taxes on the property after declaring it would not. The resort will
still close this year from Sept. 3 to Oct. 14 for regular maintenance and
Sandals informed travel advisors in an email that the
758-room resort — the largest in Turks & Caicos — will remain open.
“The impending closure being considered has been
rescinded and will no longer take effect,” wrote Gary Sadler, senior vice
president of sales for Unique Vacations, Sandals’ sales and marketing arm.
“Our hope is that you have come to love this
award-winning resort as much as we do, so it’s with great pleasure that we
announce that the resort will remain open in 2020, 2021 and beyond.”
Inventory that was kept off the market for previously
planned closures is now available to book.
“Rest assured that Beaches Turks & Caicos will
always be entirely operational with its complete range of services, full staff
and the comprehensive resort amenities we’ve become known for. Our devotion to
providing the absolute best vacation experience will never waver. You can pass
that promise on to your customers with confidence,” Sadler wrote.
Reaction from agents who received the notification “has
been very positive. The feedback is that they are very happy with this news,”
according to a Sandals spokesperson.
