Virtuoso Reveals 2019 Best of the Best

Luxury travel network Virtuoso has revealed its 2019 Best of the Best list of hotels that are every travelers’ dream stay.

This year’s list includes more than 1,300 of the world’s most alluring properties, from small boutique stays to sprawling 4,000-room resorts. There is a type of hospitality for every traveler. Most properties on the list have fewer than 100 rooms and a similar number are unaffiliated with a collection or brand, exemplifying the unique nature of the properties on this list.

The list also showcases the top trends in luxury hotels for 2019, including private retreats, rural experiences, wellness stays, quick escapes and more.

Within the Virtuoso network, Luxury Retreats offers more than 4,500 villas in 100 of the world’s most sought-after locales.

Travelers can also combine an off-the-beaten-path destination with a secluded stay at the Four Seasons Resort Mauritius at Anahita, an all-villa property along the island’s coast.

Closer to home in the Caribbean, Cotton House Mustique offers seven cottages with private verandas and plunge pools.

Those travelers who are looking for a rural escape in the countryside can head to the Domaine des Etangs, an 11th-century French chateau, or Penha Longa Resort, a Ritz-Carlton Hotel, once a retreat for Portuguese royals. Also on the list is Kura Design Villas in Costa Rica, which offers eight sleekly modern suites.

Wellness continues to dominate the industry as more travelers are seeking relaxation and restoration while away. Virtuoso reports that wellness sales are up more than 15 percent.

Travelers looking for a rejuvenating experience can head to Switzerland’s Waldhotel & Medical Excellence, the Rosewood Hong Kong, the Equinox Hotel, Hudson Yards, New York City, among others.

Several hotels on this years Best of the Best are have rebuilt and revitalized after being affected by a natural disaster. Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands is once again welcoming guests. On St. Barth, Le Sereno, Hotel Le Toiny and others have reopened. Dorado Beach, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve has reopened in Puerto Rico.

This year’s Best of the Best list also reflects travelers’ desires for short weekend escapes to alleviate the stress of daily life or to escape bad weather.

On the list is Iconic Gurney’s in New York’s Hamptons, which offers access to a 2,000-foot private beach, five restaurants and bars and an ocean-fed seawater pool.

There is also Mr. C Beverly Hills and Prestige at the Palazzo, which Virtuoso calls one of Las Vegas’s best-kept secrets.
