A North Dakota couple was killed in San Diego Monday after a tree crushed their vacation rental.
A roughly 75-foot-tall pine tree crashed into the house in the Point Loma neighborhood around 6:15 a.m., according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. There were strong winds in San Diego Monday following a week of rain.
Troy and Jessica Nelson of Grand Forks, North Dakota, in town for a convention, were killed on the day they were set to leave San Diego, according to the Union-Tribune. They owned a company called Trojan Promotions.
Troy Nelson’s sister, Tammy Reynolds, told the Grand Forks Herald that Jessica Nelson’s brother, Ryan Langerud, was also in the vacation rental but survived.
“They were just two peas in a pod,” Reynolds said. “It is such a peace for us that they went together.”
