Ryanair launching airline in Malta

Ryanair Holdings will launch a Maltese subsidiary called
Malta Air.

Malta Air will become the fourth member of the Ryanair group
of airlines, joining Poland’s Buzz, Austria’s Lauda and Ryanair.

Ryanair said it would put its six Malta-based Boeing 737s
onto the Malta Air registry. It plans to grow the fleet to 10 within three
years. The aircraft will exchange their current Ryanair livery for a Malta Air
livery by next summer.

“Malta Air will proudly fly the Maltese name and flag
to over 60 destinations across Europe and North Africa as we look to grow our
Maltese based fleet, routes, traffic and jobs over the next three years,”
Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary said during a speech in Malta on Tuesday.

Malta Air will be distinct from Maltese flag carrier Air
Malta, which launched in 1974 and is serving 42 destinations this summer.
