The View from The Shard: Why you should experience London’s highest viewpoint

The Shard is the tallest building in London, and the rest of Western Europe, at more than 300m tall.

It’s home to a number of restaurants, bars and offices, after it officially opened in 2013.

But, The Shard is also home to London’s highest viewpoint, The View from The Shard.

Simply take a short elevator trip up 68 stories, and you’ll be greeted with a 360 degree view of London and its outer boroughs.

The View from The Shard is twice the height of any other vantage point in London, and guests can see as far as 40 miles into the distance, it said.

On floor 69, you’ll stumble across a bar and seating areas, surrounded by glass which showcase London from every angle.

Head upstairs, and experience the open air sky deck on floor 72, where you’ll be opened up to the breezy elements – bring a jacket, you may get chilly!

The doors open up facing London’s north side. Looking out across the city, you’ll see the Walkie-Talkie building, The Gherkin, and, if it’s not too hazy, Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium.

Swing to the right, and you’ll see Reach plc’s home at Canary Wharf, as well as the Olympic Park.

On the south side of the building, you’ll be looking out toward the tall skyscrapers of Croydon, as well the twin radio towers at Crystal Palace.

As you wander round to the west side of the view, you’ll easily spot one of London’s most famous landmarks; The London Eye.

To make to the most of your trip to the top of The Shard, it’s a good idea to check the weather forecast before booking your trip. The best conditions are clear and sunny, and not too chilly.

If you fancy taking a journey to the best viewing platform in London, a single ticket will cost at least £24 – assuming you look at least two weeks in advance.

But, if you really fancy making the most of your trip, why not go for the Champagne Experience?

The experience includes the cost of two adult tickets, as well as a glass of Moët & Chandon Imperial Brut Champagne.

You could also spend as much as time as you’d like exploring The View from The Shard.
