The Ghan celebrates 90 Years with birthday festivities in 2019
Next year marks 90 years since The Ghan embarked on its inaugural journey cementing its place in Australian history and its reputation as one of the world’s best train journeys.
To celebrate this momentous occasion, guests are invited to travel in The Ghan’s 90th year and be part of the birthday celebrations. With a dedicated anniversary train, 90 days of celebrations and six signature packages featuring The Ghan, there are a range of ways you can join us for the ride!
For a truly memorable experience, board The 90th Anniversary Train, which will depart Adelaide for Darwin on 4 August 2019 – 90 years to the day since the original ‘Afghan Express’ left for Alice Springs. This one-off journey will include unique on-train experiences and Off Train Excursions, plus a birthday party like no other in the outback.
Festivities will amplify in the months of June, July and August with 90 days of celebrations. Guests on any departure during these months can expect a little something extra by way of a birthday treat from The Ghan.
A journey on The Ghan has always been about more than just the train trip itself. Join us on one of six signature packages and make the most of your journey through the outback, going beyond the tracks. Discover the people and places between Adelaide and Darwin that make an adventure on The Ghan even more memorable.
Package highlights include visits to Uluru and Kakadu National Park, 4WD adventures and Darwin city touring. Each itinerary heroes a different part of the journey and allows guests to explore further afield on eight to 14-day holidays.
Also new in 2019 is more Platinum Service cabins for The Ghan, meaning more guests will be able to travel in this premium accommodation. Selling out up to nine months in advance, Platinum Service offers more space, upgraded Off Train Excursions and extra courses when dining.
