Cruise and Maritime Voyages said it will become the first
line to sail cruises from Puerto Penasco, a Mexican port at the
northern end of the Gulf of California. Puerto Penasco is about a 4-hour drive
CMV said an itinerary called “Treasures of the Sea of
Cortez” will sail in December 2019 and in January and February of 2020
with rates starting at $1,599 per person.
The 12-day cruises will sail on the 550-passenger Astoria.
Puerto Penasco, also known as Rocky Point, could be an
alternative for passengers from Arizona and neighboring states who would
otherwise drive to Los Angeles to take a cruise. Using the port also eliminates
the need to sail around Baja California to get to the Sea of Cortez.
